My immigration experience

I never thought that I will leave my birthplace someday. After graduated from college and following up was unexpected marriage, then I was followed my husband to a total strange country- America.
Grow up in traditional Chinese family, especial raised by my grandmother, I was in a very protective environment. I was always did as I told; be a nice girl without voice. There is a Chinese saying that " children supposed to have ears not mouths", it means children have to keep their opinion inside or have no opinion at all.
At beginning, my nice and weak personality which let people could take advantage of me, after awhile I learned that I had to speak up my mind, had to stand up for myself, and argued with the other. It was a entirely different culture. It took me a long time to adjust myself.
Many years passed by, I fell in love with the sense of freedom, I like to be treated like a adult. Nowadays when people asked if I want to go back to my hometown, I constantly answer them that I like to visit my hometown as a visitor, and enjoy my life here as an individual person.
